Experience all the flavors of Croatia in one memorable trip. Discover its fantastic capital, Zagreb, and the attractive seaside towns of Opatija and Rovinj, both nestled along the beautiful Istrian peninsula. Relax on Croatia's stunning Dalmatian coast, overlooking the crystal blue Adriatic Sea with visits to Split, with its historic old town set in a Roman palace. Then stroll along the ancient city walls of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Dubrovnik. In addition to viewing historic castles and majestic waterfalls, you'll sample some of Croatia's culinary delights including local cheeses, honey, olive oil and wine.
Day 1: Arrive Zagreb
After arriving in Zagreb airport, meet your driver for a private transfer to your centrally located hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure for relaxing or sightseeing independently. At 7pm, you'll have a welcome meeting with your guide. Dinner will be on your own this evening.
Day 2: Zagreb
After breakfast meet your guide for a tour of Croatia's capital city.
On this tour you'll have the opportunity to see the fortified Upper
Town, the city's historical center, St Mark's church with its
multi-colored roof, the Cathedral, Croatian National Theater and the
University. Afterwards you'll head to Trakoscan castle. One of the most
attractive castles in Croatia, it is built on the visible foundations of
simple Roman citadels from the 12th and 13th centuries. Later enjoy
typical Zagorje meal on The Hill of Sin (Grešna Gorica) before visiting
Veliki Tabor; a 15th century castle offering a visitor an atmosphere of
genuine Zagorje scenery, and making you feel a part of the romantic and
dramatic past of this historic city. (B, L)
Day 3: Opatija
After breakfast, you'll have an early departure to Fužine, a village in Croatia's mountainous Gorski Kotar region. Situated 730m above sea level, it is surrounded by picturesque mountains, and home to the famous Cave Vrelo. Formed in limestone almost 4 million years ago, the cave is rich in various formations, such as stalagmites and stalactites. The cave's step-free mild terrain makes it a great option for visitors of all ages. Afterwards, have a pleasant walk around Lake Bajer before enjoying lunch in the famous local restaurant Bitoraj. Later in the afternoon, you'll depart to Opatija. After checking into your hotel, enjoy a free evening and dinner on your own. (B, L)
Day 4: Opatija
After breakfast, you'll have an early departure to Fužine, a village in
Croatia's mountainous Gorski Kotar region. Situated 730m above sea
level, it is surrounded by picturesque mountains, and home to the famous

Day 5: Zadar
After breakfast, we'll make the short drive to the port of Prizna for a ferry ride to the island of Pag. The island has long-standing traditions of cheese and wine-making. Paški sir (Pag cheese) is one of Croatia's most celebrated culinary exports, and you'll have the opportunity to sample it at Sirana Gligora. After sometime to explore on your own, you'll travel by ferry to Zadar, your final destination of the day. In the early evening, you'll enjoy a seafood meal in a local restaurant. (B, D)
Day 6: Split
After breakfast at hotel, we are heading to Krka National Park. This morning we will explore the park's extensive waterways and complex history dating back to late 10th century and first Croatian kings. You'll visit Skradinski Buk waterfall, the place where the second hydro plant in the world was built, just a few years after the one on Niagara Falls. The "buk", meaning cascade, was created by a natural travertine barrier along the river, and the falls are not one, but a series of 17 steps over the course of 800m. After exploring your surroundings, enjoy a traditional Dalmatian lunch in a traditional restaurant dedicated to Dalmatian culinary culture. After lunch, you'll make a stop the charming town of Trogir. This old walled town is a UNESCO World Heritage site with narrow streets, squares and churches, making it a worthwhile visit. It's a short drive to Split, and after checking into your hotel, dinner will be on your own this evening. (B, L)
Day 7: Split
This morning, meet your guide for an informative walking tour of Split. The highlight of the tour is the massive Roman ruin complex, and arguably the most important historical site in Split, Diocletian's Palace. Built at the beginning of the 4th century A.D. by the Roman Emperor Diocletian, you'll not only find inside its walls, antiques, but also elements familiar with medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque time periods. In the late afternoon, you'll visit the Uje Oil Bar; an olive oil/delicatessen shop for a tasting of a selection of olive oils and local wines. The evening is at your leisure. The city offers an array of excellent local cuisine.
Day 8: Dubrovnik
You'll have an early departure to Dubrovnik. On our way, there will be a stop for a wine tasting at one of the small wineries of Peljesac peninsula. Arriving in Ston, you'll enjoy a seafood lunch in a restaurant famous for its oysters and mussels. This medieval town, whose history reaches back as far as the 14th century, boasts the longest stone wall in Europe (5,5km), with narrow quiet streets, noble ancient houses and with traces of ancient cultures. Its moniker as a "salt city" is recognized today, as it remains the oldest active salt-works in the world. After you arrive in Dubrovnik, you can relax or explore this very walkable city. (B, L)
Day 9: Dubrovnik
After breakfast, meet your guide for a walking tour of Dubrovnik. Your guide will lead you through the narrow streets of the Old Town, introducing you to the history and culture of this magnificent city along with the main sights including the Orlando Column, Rector's Palace, St Blaise church, the Cathedral, Sponza Palace and many others. After this walking tour, you'll head to the Konavle region for a visit and honey tasting in one of the local households. The Konavle valley is a fascinating region in the hinterland of Dubrovnik. Known for its traditional way of living, pure olive oil, green honey, sweet smelling herbs and embroidery, it's a real ethnographic, gastronomic and natural jewel of Croatia. This evening, you'll end your remarkable trip with a typical Dalmatian meal in one of the local restaurants. (B, D)
Day 10: Depart Dubrovnik
After breakfast, meet your driver for a private transfer to Dubrovnik airport, and onward to your next Avanti Destination! (B)
