Saint Tropez & Cannes: Known as a high-octane party spot, Saint Tropez has a glam village feel, while Cannes is the place for designer shopping and seafront promenading.

Art Aficionados
Several artists used the South of France as a muse, so it's no wonder this area is filled with museums celebrating their work. Be sure to visit the Musée Picasso in Antibes, where you’ll see some of Picasso’s later works along with pieces from other modern artists. The Matisse Museum, featuring works from Henri Matisse, the Marc Chagall Museum, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which includes works from several artists, including Yves Klein, are also not to be missed.

When are the local events?
Nice Carnival
February through March. The South of France's most popular event features parades, concerts, fireworks, and more.
Cannes Film Festival
May. Each year, the biggest and best film festival in the world takes over the city of Cannes. Although admission to the event is by invitation only, daily film screenings on Mace Beach are free to the public—and you might even catch a glimpse of celebrities about town.
Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix
May. Head to Monaco to enjoy the sound of roaring sports car engines at the only race held on city streets.
Crazy Week
July. Nice’s Théâtre de Verdure offers 5 days of music performances from a variety of bands, both local and international.
Nice Jazz Festival
July. Nice lights up with some of the best live jazz performances.

Day Trips
With its proximity to Cannes, Monaco, St-Tropez, and several mountainous villages, Nice is a great jumping off point for excursions. Plus, traveling is made easy with an array of buses and trains that make several trips to these destinations daily.
Beach Shoes
Several beaches of the South of France — especially in Nice — are filled with rocks and pebbles instead of soft sand, so be sure to bring along appropriate footwear for the beach.
Plan Ahead
The South of France attracts the biggest crowds in July and August, so if you're planning a summer retreat, be sure to make your reservations far enough in advance.
